Ragnar Lothbrok
Actor Travis Fimmel portrayed Ragnar Lothbrok in the Vikings series.
Ragnar Lothbrok is a legendarjy Viking hero and fearless warrior.He claimed to be an ancestor of the Norse god Odin–the god of slain warriors, but also the god of eternal curiosity.
Ragnar Lothbrok and his wife Lagertha were farmers. They had one son Bjorn Ironside and a daughter Gyda.
Ragnar ambition is to sail towards the West. Ragnar then visits Floki, a good friend of his, a shipwright of great skill, Floki resolves to build for him a ship that will safely brave the western ocean. After some time, Floki has successfully designed the longship; which Ragnar and Rollo test. They find that it is perfect and will safely see them to the west. After many days of sailing, they finally reach the monastery of Lindisfarne in Northumbria. What would later be known as the first recorded Viking raid in Western Europe thus unfolds, with Ragnar claiming an appreciable horde of treasure and a Christian prisoner known as Athelstan.
Ragnar challenges to the Earl of Kattegat after returning from sail. Though initially reluctant to accept, Earl Haraldson realizes their fates have brought them together and that the only way to end Ragnar's threat is to face him in battle. Thus, he agrees to the duet. Ragnar defeats the Earl and became the new Earl. Several months later, Ragnar and his warriors take to the seas on their longships and arrive again on Northumbrian soil. Taking the noble as a valuable hostage, the Vikings extort the Anglo-Saxons for 2000 pounds of gold and silver to leave their country.
He then married to Queen Aslaug his second wife with whom he had four sons Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd (snake in the eye) and Ivar the Boneless.The Seer had once prophesied that Ragnar will have many sons.
Despite his reputation for ruthlessness and brutality, Ragnar is a curious man prepared to learn about other cultures.
After raiding Northumbria and Wessex, Ragnar decided to move towards Paris.
But he didn't get succeeded in conquering Paris. His brother Rollo betrayed him and got married to Giesla the princess of Paris.
Ragnar again fails to win Paris and got badly defeated and disappears somewhere.
After coming back Ragnar again wants to sail towards West but no one supports him.
He only got support of his younger son Ivar the boneless and moved towards West with few Vikings.
Ragnar struggles with many visions on his journey to death. King Ælle beats and tortures Ragnar and cuts a cross into his head but Ragnar will not repent. He remembers Athelstan teaching him to pray.
When it is finally time for him to die, he boasts of Odin and Valhalla. He says he is not afraid and he welcomes the Valkyries. He is then thrown into a pit of venomous snakes.
